Interview Questions:
- What was your favorite Quickfire or Elimination challenge from Season 7?
- Tiffany: My favorite challenge was the embassy challenge where we picked a country and had to prepare something of that origin. I picked Mexico and made the $10,000.00 tamale, lol.
- What was the one thing you learned in your first season that you worked on and carried over as an advantage into Season 8?
- Tiffany: I do not like being behind to [the point] where I am not thinking straight just trying to make time. I started thinking about how long it takes me to do things, I know when a challenge begins, I will need basic things like salt, pepper, bowls, spatulas and I timed myself on getting them. My timelines that I would give myself were always exact.
- Is there an advantage rolling straight into Season 8 from Season 7?
- I think that there are some advantages because the mindset of competing is still there. You are quicker than most and I didn't seem to get as physically tired as others. There are also some disadvantages, like they had time to perfect their recipes. They knew exactly what they were going to cook and had time to work on the things that might have sent them home before. They also had a break which would have been nice.
- If I remember correctly, cheftestants are allowed to bring several "secret ingredients" with them to the competition. What did you bring for Season 8?
- Tiffany: I brought preserved lemons, white grits (super hard to find in some areas), a special mole powder from Mexico, ohh and some smoked salts.
- From watching the other seasons, who were you most looking forward to cook against?
- Tiffany: I admired quite a few of them and I was excited to see Jen Carrol, Carla Hall, and Richard Blais.
- Any past cast members that you expected to be a part of All-Stars that you think got snubbed?
- Tiffany: I never really thought about it, but my buddies Ed Cotton and Kenny Gilbert wanted to come and have some fun with us.
- Fill in the Blank: I would've been blown away if they brought __________ in as a guest judge.
- Tiffany: Oprah
- Favorite ingredient:
- Tiffany: All mustards
- Harshest judge:
- Tiffany: For me, [it was] Eric Ripert. He just did not like anything I did.
- Favorite guest judge:
- Tiffany: Anthony Bourdain
- Biggest regret from your first season:
- Tiffany: I did not feel good about my last meal, even if you don't win you should still be happy and feel good about it. I did not think it was fair for me to not receive new mussels and herbs because of a refrigerator having an error [which] ultimately led to my elimination. I like to know that I cooked my food and I liked it even if the judges did not like it.
- When this season is over, what factors in most when ranking the strength of past seasons? The season that wins the most Elimination Challenges throughout the entire All-Star season, or the winner of Top Chef All-Stars represents the "best" season?
- Tiffany: Truthfully, I don't think it means your season was the strongest because the next time around you are winning [the title]. It could mean you are a better chef than you were before. Or honestly a little bit of luck because each guest judge sometimes has a difference of opinion than others. Also, lets look at the everyday guest. Sometimes they will love the very thing that Tom doesn't. Everything is debatable in my eyes.
Make sure to tune in and cheer on Tiffany during Top Chef Season 8: Reaching for the Stars! Also, next time you are in Dallas, make sure to stop by and see Tiffany. She is currently building her new restaurant, Private Social, with business partner Patrick Halbert. It will be located in Uptown Dallas on McKinney street and is planning to open in August.
